Govee lights

Govee built a real local API into many of its lights: flip one switch in the app and commands stay on your network. Older BLE-only bulbs skip the app layer entirely through a reverse-engineered Bluetooth client.

What it can become

What owners already do with it, easiest first.

Turn on LAN Control in the app

On a supported model's settings page, a single switch opens a local API over your Wi-Fi. If it's missing, Govee's own guide says to power-cycle the light and wait: not every model has it.

Drive it from Home Assistant with no cloud

Once LAN Control is on, a UDP multicast on your network finds every light and sends it commands directly, no Govee account in the loop at all.

Control an older Bluetooth-only bulb

A community Home Assistant integration drives Bluetooth-only bulbs and strips through a reverse-engineered protocol: no app, no account, no Wi-Fi needed, just a phone or a small server in range. It is a slower-moving project, so check your exact model is covered first.
